Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for Waste Recycling Project

Project Summary: REM is engaged by the Client to conduct the Second Schedule Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the decontamination of major decommissioned plant and equipment and safe handling of NORM and scheduled wastes. The scope of works includes preparing TOR/ESI, baseline study, consultation with the relevant Authorities, EIA studies and preparation of a report for submission to the Department of Environment. Date: October 2020 to Present.

Closure Plan for Industrial Closure

Project Summary: REM is engaged by the Client to prepare the decommissioning and safe closure plan for submission to Department of Environment. The scope of work includes preparing the strategy and requirements to plan, implement, monitor, and reporting of the decommissioning works. Essential parameters include identification of major plant and equipment decontamination and removal, building demolition plan and sequence, safe handling of hazardous chemicals and substances, waste management and disposal, and documentation and record-keeping. Date: October 2020 to Present.

Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) for Closure of Scheduled Waste Off-Site Recovery Facility

Project Summary: REM is engaged by the Client to prepare the decommissioning and decontamination plan for the industrial closure of the licensed off-site recovery facility (prescribed premise) to fulfill the EIA requirements for site abandonment plan. Our scope of services includes Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA), prepare the closure sequence, supervision during decontamination and removal of major plant and equipment, waste management and final disposal, soil assessment, consultation with the Department of Environment, and preparation and submission of final closure report. Date: June 2020 to Present.

Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) for Industrial Closure

Project Summary: REM was engaged by the Client to conduct a preliminary site investigation to collect relevant environmental and radiological information for the planning of a decommissioning and closure plan. Our scope of services includes Phase I ESA to review current and past industrial practices, regulatory compliance status, chemicals use, radioactive materials & Phase II ESA, additional soil boring, installation of groundwater monitoring wells, soil and groundwater sampling and testing, evaluation of analytical data and preparation of conceptual site model (CSM), preparation of the decommissioning and remediation plan, and consultation with the Atomic Energy Licensing Board and Department of Environment. Date: January 2020 to Present.

Decontamination of Scheduled Waste Off-Site Recovery Facility and Permit Process for Conversion into Non-Prescribed Industrial Activity

Project Summary: REM is engaged by the Client to provide environmental management and technical support during decontamination and closure of licensed scheduled waste off-site recovery facility (prescribed premise) to fulfill the EIA requirements prior to conversion into non-prescribed premise facility. The scope of services includes consultation with the Department of Environment, supervision during decontamination of plant and equipment, management of NORM and scheduled wastes, documentation of waste inventory, permit and license application for conversion of industrial activity, written notification, documentation of commissioning of new industrial activity, and preparation and submission of final closure report. Date: July 2019 to Present.

Radiation Consultancy and Technical Support for NORM Recycling Project

Project Summary: Our practitioner is retained by the Client as a Radiation Protection Consultant to provide radiological consultancy and technical support for NORM recycling activity. The scope of services includes the provision of Radiation Protection Officer (RPO), permit and license application of Class A, D & E License under Act 304, consultation with the Atomic Energy Licensing Board, coordinate for the research and development of NORM residue with Universities, development of radiation protection plan and procedures, radiation surveys and personnel monitoring, safe transport and handling of radioactive materials, site inspection, consultation with the authority, preparation and submission of the report to the Authority. May 2019 to Present.

Soil and Groundwater Assessment

Project Summary: REM was engaged by the Client to conduct soil and groundwater assessment at their existing metal smelting plant. Our scope of services included evaluation of existing groundwater wells, installation of new groundwater wells, soil and groundwater sampling and testing, evaluation of analytical data versus baseline data, preparation of assessment report for submission to the Department fo Environment. Date: October to December 2019.

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for New Industrial Project

Project Summary: Our practitioner was engaged by the Client as a Subject Consultant (radioactive materials) to participate in the Schedule 2 Environmental Impact Assessment (S2EIA) study for the proposed non-ferrous metal smelting and refining plant. The scope of works includes client’s representative for consultation with the Atomic Energy Licensing Board and Department of Environment, preparation of terms of reference (TOR), technical advice on the handling of radioactive materials and scheduled wastes, design of the storage facility, liaison with local and federal authorities, permit and license application, technical support for the preparation of EIA report, and reporting to the Client of the status update. Date: April 2018 to December 2019.

Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Consultancy Services

Project Summary: Our practitioner was engaged by the Client as the Retainer Environmental Consultant to provide combined environmental, health, and safety (EHS) consultancy services. The scope of services includes resolving issues related to environmental management, handling of scheduled wastes, supervision on the performance of air pollution control systems, general safety and health compliance, participate in the safety committee and project meeting, and preparation and submission of compliance report to the Local and Federal Authorities. Date: February 2018 to May 2020.
